On a bright and breezy day, our annual Sports Day 2025 kicked off full of anticipation of which house will take home this year’s House Cup. Throughout the running, throwing, and jumping events, the pupils demonstrated incredible determination and sportsmanship. Whether it was sprinting down the track, jumping over hurdles, launching the shot put, or leaping into the sandpit, each pupil gave their absolute best throughout the day.

The highlight of the day wasn’t just the impressive performances on show but the memorable moment when the house gazebos tried to make a break for freedom during lunchtime. A sudden gust of wind blew them down and thanks to some quick thinking staff and Kerry Jordan, mom to Theo in Year 8, the gazebos were safely secured and the fun continued without any more hiccups. Of course, no Sports Day would be complete without records, and this year was no exception. We witnessed history being made in two standout events: 200m Hurdles – Riley in Year 9 broke this 7 year long standing record. Shot Put – Archie in Year 8 broke this 10 year long standing record.

The day ended with the House Relay which was a thrilling finale that saw all houses give their all in a nail-biting finish. While only one house could take home the overall trophy, every pupil, teacher, and supporter contributed to making the day unforgettable.

Congratulations to Ainslie House who win a second consecutive sports day. A big thank you goes out to our P.E. department, staff, and pupil helpers who made the day run smoothly. Their planning and enthusiasm ensured that Sports Day 2025 was a resounding success. Also a big thank you to Wajid Zeb from NA Cars, who once again provided all staff and pupils with a delicious and very welcome ice cream. Cleo Dudley, food technology teacher, ably assisted by Lea Slivka Blaskova our newly appointed senior administrator, sorting out refreshments as well as selling raffle tickets.

A big thank you also to Lilly-May’s nan for providing some of the lovely hampers. As a result we were able to raise a grand total of £232.22 towards our school fund account, which ultimately supports pupils with those little extras. The lucky prize winners were 1st Caitlyn Walker in 9c, 2nd Rebecca Spendlove in 9a, 3rd Evie Leonard in 9c, 4th Stacey Urmson(staff) and 5th Lynne Rymer (school cook) – many congratulations to all and enjoy your prizes. Here’s to another year of records, resilience, and gazebos that hopefully stay grounded.
